Pupils at St. Peter’s will learn that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. They will be inspired and engaged by music education. Music lessons will develop their talent as musicians, and in turn increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Our curriculum aims to give children the skills to play tuned and untuned instruments, to sing with confidence and control, and to read and compose their own music. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience playing a musical instrument to encourage a lifelong love of music. Every child therefore, learns the Ukulele in a whole class setting. As well as learning the technique to master the instrument, these lessons incorporate teaching musical staff notation, singing and rhythm. Opportunities are taken to perform in class, in whole school assemblies and also to parents.
Children are encouraged to discuss their personal responses to different types of music and to understand how music can reveal information about a time or a culture. Whole-school singing assemblies, concerts and productions help to maintain high standards of performance, creativity, enjoyment and pride in our achievements.
Individual and small group instrumental tuition is offered and a weekly rehearsing recorder club and choir.
