Curriculum:

In topic sessions, we are continuing with our study of Ancient Egypt. To enrich our learning, the children will have the opportunity to write in hieroglyphs, dress up as an Ancient Egyptian and embark on some Egyptian food tasting!

Following this, we are spending a few weeks studying poetry and using The Jabberwocky as inspiration to write our own poems. A large proportion of our English writing will focus on our main topic ‘Quests,’ with a heavy emphasis on a cross-curricular approach. We will be taking our learning outdoors for much of this, so look out for dates when the children will need outdoor clothes and wellies in school! After half term, we will begin to look at elements of history involving Invaders and Settlers, focusing particularly on the Romans. Whilst we are planning to provide children with knowledge about this period in history through many planned activities, we are hoping that the children’s interests in particular areas will be a means of guiding the avenues that we explore. We will be visiting The Collection Museum in Lincoln to enrich our learning in this area.

Maths will cover a range of mathematical topics that include division, fractions and decimals and statistics, as well as consolidating and extending multi-step problems involving addition, subtraction and multiplication.

In Science and Music, we will be looking at how sounds are made and heard. This will link to our DT project which is designing and making our own musical instruments.

Homework: This term, homework will consist of tasks related to the recall of times tables, related division facts and spelling. Naturally, we hope your child will read regularly at home and we would like them to record this (along with an adult’s signature) in their homework diaries. Within the homework folder, you will also find a menu of optional homework activities that you may wish to undertake in order to support your child’s learning. Homework will be issued on Fridays and returned the following Thursday.

P.E. Kit: In P.E. children will be developing Dance and Gymnastic skills on Monday mornings and will have an outdoor games session on a Thursday afternoon. Therefore P.E./Games kit should be in school throughout the week. Indoor P.E. kit should consist of a white T-shirt and black shorts. For outdoor P.E., children should wear kit appropriate to the time of year and the sport being undertaken (warm clothing and layers!).

We hope this information will be useful for you and your child and if you are able to support in any way, prior or during these topics, we would be grateful. If you have a special interest in any of the areas we plan to cover and are interested in coming in and supporting in class, please do not hesitate to contact us.
